About
SAFE-UK was founded in 2010 by Tara Wright (left) in response to a request from her sister Moira Chimombo (right) to help orphaned students from the rural community of Kachere, near Zomba, in Malawi with sponsorship of secondary school fees. SAFE-UK and the American registered charity SAFE-Africa are partners with SAFE (Sub-Saharan Africa Family Enrichment) in Malawi, of which Moira Chimombo is the Chief Executive.
SAFE-UK now supports several rural communities in Malawi, focusing on the following key areas:
- Education ( pre-school learning, secondary school fees)
- Agriculture (provision of fertiliser and tuition of farming techniques)
- Health and well-being (blanket distribution, provision of mosquito nets, life skills education)
At the core of our ethos is the belief that education is a right for all children and that it provides a means to break free from the cycle of extreme poverty, by gaining qualifications that will boost their chances of finding employment.
Being a small charity, SAFE-UK is able to operate with minimal overheads. Therefore we can currently guarantee that 100% of donations reach the intended destination.
Above are 3 students being sponsored by SAFE-UK at Masongola: left to right are: Benson Mbewe, Bettie Unyolo and Shaibu Lamusi.
